In a world where fashion is often synonymous with exclusivity and luxury, I vouched to once again want to break the barriers and stereotypes with my innovative venture Kals.in. This is not just a clothing line, but a powerful statement of art, design, aesthetics, inclusivity, acceptance, and empowerment.
Kals Apparel was born out of the vision to connect social work with social entrepreneurship. My passion for art and poetry and the constant curiosity to experiment them is infinite. Having done most of my artworks on canvas and handmade paper, and strictly exhibiting them only in galleries and institutions, I want to take my art and place it to where it belongs, everywhere. Through Kals.in, art and poetry have transitioned into fabrics creating artistic and fashionable garments for everyone to wear.
The initiative trains under privileged trans and cis gender women at the Sahodari Livelihood Centre and employs them into different roles in our studio factory at Kals.in. Kals.in is a team work of great craftsmanship, with four transgender women and two cis gender women working.
The brand’s designs are artworks created to accommodate the unique needs of fashion lovers all over the world who love to try a range of styles, from casual wear to formal attire, ensuring that everyone can find something that makes them feel confident and beautiful in spite of their gender identity. Kals Apparel is not just about selling clothes; it’s about empowering the transgender community.
The brand provides a platform for transgender models, designers, and artists to showcase their talents, challenging the dominant cisgender norms that have long governed the fashion industry.
By creating opportunities for transgender individuals to participate in the fashion industry, I want to promote a culture of inclusivity and acceptance. My vision is to create a world where transgender individuals are not just tolerated, but celebrated and valued for their unique contributions.
